Summary: This dissertation focuses on the theme of positional specialization in football. Despite the various investigations on the process of training and development of athletes in soccer, the stage that involves the process of positional specialization has been little investigated. Addressing this gap, the general objective of the study is to characterize the process of positional specialization in the training of players in a soccer club from the perspective of coaches. A club with a tradition of results in the base category was the case selected for the research. Coaches from the sub 11 to sub 20 categories were invited to participate through semi-structured interviews. The analysis and interpretation of the coaches` speeches showed that there is a lack in the training curriculum about the stage of specialization, which should be further discussed, putting more light on the subject. We conclude that, in the training process of the investigated club, the coaches reported that the positions are not established in the initial categories, however, there is no consensus on what age or moment the specialization should occur. The coaches` reports expressed that up to the under 17 category there is no training directed to a certain position, with the exception of goalkeepers.
